Activity

Passerelle is an illustrated dictionary in three languages (French, Romani and Romanian) created and illustrated by marginalised mother-tongue French, Romani and Romanian children living in the Roma camp in Grigny, France, in order to stimulate their creativity and promote integration. The illustrated dictionary was created in 2013 during a summer camp organised in the informal settlement by the French NGO Ulule.

This project provided opportunities for meeting and exchange between children of different nationalities and ethnic groups. At the end of the summer children who were formerly unable to express themselves in French surprised even their companions. Participants in the project could also be seen to have improved their concentration. The picture book was distributed both on line and in print during the course of 2014.
