Music education and tuition activities for minors and youths on the move and their Greek peers.
The project in detail
To create occasions of integration and inclusion through the practice of collective ensemble music. More specifically, the project aimed to:
- help minors and youths on the move start a post-traumatic resilience process through the practice of music, in a protected and safe environment;
- strengthen (empowerment) their artistic-creative skills, improve their social relationship skills, self-esteem and confidence in themselves.
- 173 students (5-24 ages), of which 80 minors on the move and 22 UAM (12-18 ages), participated to music education activities inside the Kypseli núcleo, the Kaloy’s Conservatory, as well as the Schisto and Korinthos Refugee Sites;
- 133 students (5-24 ages), of which 69 with a migration background, participated to El Sistema Greece Summer Camp;
- 29 students (13-19 ages), with different cultural and social backgrounds, participated to the Young Leaders Programme.
In 2023, El Sistema Greece (ESG), with the support of Alta Mane, has developed the following activities:
- potentiated the music education program inside the Kypseli núcleo reaching 39 students, of which 19 with a migration background (8-24 ages), and 2 UAM;
- strengthened the music education program inside the Kaloy’s Conservatory and extended it inside the Korinthos Refugee Site and the Emergency Center for UASC, managed by IOM, reaching 69 students (5-23 ages), of which 15 on the move, and 20 UAM (12-18 ages);
- reactivated the music education lessons inside the Schisto Refugee Site reaching 65 students on the move (5-24 ages);
- organized, in Athens, the second edition of El Sistema Greece Summer Camp in favor of 133 students (5-24 ages), of which 69 minors with a migration background;
- strengthened the Young Leaders Programme in favor of 29 students (13-19 ages) coming from Greece, Syria, Spain, Romania, Egypt, Poland, Sierra Leone, China, and Moldova;
- organized a session on the Rights of the Child, led by Anna Mertzani, General Manager of the PYXIDA Intercultural Center run by the Greek Council for Refugees (November 25th, 2023), reaching 14 students from the Young Leaders Programme;
- 4 students (2 of the El Sistema Greece Youth Orchestra and 2 of the El Sistema Greece Youth Choir) participated in the Il Congreso Mundial El Sistema, performing in the final concert of the World Orchestra and the World Choir, (Caracas, 9-24 September 2023);
- organized 22 live concerts in which the members of the El Sistema Greece Youth Orchestra, the members of the El Sistema Greece Youth Choir and the members of the Kypseli Orchestra performed, reaching 20’965 persons.
